Information about AIS
Throughout the season we get many calls in regards to AIS. There is a very common misconception that AIS is a tool to track your vessel online or on apps on your smart devices. This is not at all the reason for AIS. AIS is a safety device designed for collision avoidance. The various AIS/Vessel traffic sites on the internet are not part of the AIS system. They have no regulation, low accuracy, and are not a reliable source of anything other than advertising. AIS is not internet based.
